Underwater portraits for real people

Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Wait, what? A photoshoot…but underwater?

Yes, you read that right. This is not your average portrait session. This goes far beyond what any normal photoshoot could offer because this isn’t just a photoshoot, it’s an experience. This is an opportunity to capture the beauty that radiates from those special moments of action, growth, and empowerment.

No great experience is complete without a great guide. This is the secret ingredient that separates this underwater photoshoot in a cenote from the rest. Through my vast experience working as a SCUBA instructor and Yoga teacher for the past 15 years, I have come to understand the level of care, guidance, and compassion that people need to successfully navigate the underwater environment.

My goal is to capture these special moments of empowerment during your underwater photo session in Tulum to show you how beautiful you truly are.

“Working with Francesca has been a phenomenal experience. From the moment we met her, she was graceful and kind enough to show us the techniques needed to depict everlasting photos underwater. We loved working with Francesca. She was so kind and patient! Would totally do it again!“

— Judith Trejo

“Fran was extremely professional and made me feel very confident. She was very detailed in her explanations and gave great instructions on how to breathe and move in the water. This underwater photoshoot was on my bucket list and it wouldn’t have been this amazing without Fran! Thank you so much for bringing my vision to life and making me feel like a princess under the sea for my birthday!”

— Domonique Walker

“I can highly recommend Fran for an underwater photoshoot. She is professional, easy to work with, and produces amazing material! Besides going home with beautiful photos, you’ll have an exciting and fun day, that you'll never forget. She is the absolute best!”

— Kirsten Paulides

Hi! I am Fran.

I am an Italian underwater portrait photographer who lives in Playa Del Carmen, a colorful Caribbean city nestled between lush jungle and crystal clear sea on the breathtaking Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.

For the past 15 years, I have lived all throughout the world working as a SCUBA diving instructor, underwater photographer, and certified yoga teacher.

Through my unique experience teaching SCUBA diving and breathwork, blended with my practical understanding of human behavior underwater, I will provide all the support and guidance you will need to relax and become more fluid in the water so that we can capture the most beautiful version of yourself.

But, what if…

I have been asked this same question over and over again:  What if I cannot swim?

Don’t worry about your swimming capabilities, you don’t need to know how to swim to enroll in my underwater photo session in Tulum.

Here’s why your comfort level in the water isn’t important for my underwater photoshoots in the cenotes:

Since I have worked with thousands of people who:

  • are afraid of the water

  • cannot swim

  • have physical disabilities

  • are afraid of water and natural bodies of water

I am the most specialized underwater photographer in Mexico working and creating art with absolutely everybody, including those people with little to no swimming skills. This is because I believe that the beauty of underwater photoshoots in the cenotes should be accessible to everyone. Thus, I spent my career developing the skills to share this art form with everyone who wants to try it.

I know that no matter what your doubts are, we can overcome them together and create gorgeous surreal portraits to eternalize your true beauty.

It’s about celebrating… YOU!

No matter what the reason is, a birthday, an engagement, or a special occasion, could you think of a better way to celebrate than an underwater photoshoot in Tulum?

I’ve had SO many clients planning a birthday photoshoot in Tulum and booking my cenote underwater photography as a special birthday celebration.

But also, if you don’t have a specific event to celebrate, what about celebrating yourself?

An underwater photoshoot in a cenote holds many different meanings to each of my clients. There is no right or wrong answer to why you want a cenote underwater photoshoot.

I have even had clients come to celebrate their divorces by using this cenote underwater photoshoot as a symbol of re-birth.

For many women, the underwater photoshoot in cenotes is a significant milestone in their journey of self-acceptance. I am always so moved and grateful to be part of your journey.

Whatever your reason may be (or not be!), there is space for you in my underwater photoshoot in Tulum.

We don’t need special permission to celebrate our lives.

A little description of the day

Shortly after we meet and greet, we'll have a look at the outfits you brought, and the ones I have, to pick and choose what you are going to wear for the underwater photo session in Tulum.

If you are looking for outfit inspiration and guidelines, check out this article I wrote specifically about outfits for an underwater photo session in Tulum.

Before going into the water, I am going to give you a thorough explanation of underwater photography in a cenote and how we are going to work together throughout the entire underwater photoshoot.

The main points of my briefing include safety in the water, breathing techniques, posing tips, and relaxation techniques.

In the water, you will always be escorted by one of my safety assistants. They are entirely dedicated to your safety and comfort throughout the entire shoot.

During our shooting time, I will guide you and constantly check on your posing to ensure you look your best underwater!
